About Me

MUSIC AND WORDS

I am a UK-based author, musician and composer.

My compositions are essentially instrumental in nature and centre around the genres of acoustic, rock, New Age, Jazz, electronic and experimental. My children's/young adult fantasy/sci-fi novel 'Celeste and the Witch Garden' was published in 2023, and currently has 56 quality reviews on Amazon. Apart from working on a sequel to 'Celeste', I am writing a sci-fi thriller called 'The Orb Forest'. Celeste and the Witch Garden is published by Burton Mayers Books, and is available from Amazon, Waterstones etc.

I've had six compositions played on local radio over the last few years, and hope to have more aired in the near future. Please contact me if you would like to collaborate, or use my music for film and TV Projects.

A LIFE IN MUSIC

I've been making music for as long as I can remember. I finished my first novel at the age of 15 and sent it off to a London publisher. Looking back, it was never going to be accepted, it just wasn't good enough, but I sent a cassette recording of some of my music to the publisher, too, in the hope they would could use it to accompany the book. So I guess combining my writing with my music has always been something that interested me. Over the years, I've owned a variety of guitars and keyboards, and composed many instrumental works, even songs. Like many in my situation, I often used to sent stuff off to record companies when they still accepted demos, but seldom had any replies. Though I do seem to remember someone saying they liked one my songs, called 'Sally Moonshine', once, on the return slip. These days, with the event of the internet, it's easier to get your music heard, and I've embraced the medium, having spent the last 14 years building up my small home studio, as well as composing well over 150 instrumental tracks. I can't say I've always got the production side of things 100% to my satisfaction, but I've enjoyed having a go. Hopefully, you'll hear something you like!

My Muse

I have a deep fascination with America. I remain thoroughly captivated by the culture, the countryside and the scale of the place. Many of my favourite bands and singers hail from the USA; and, of course, I’m a big fan of Stephen King. I love to engage with big ideas, the big questions. Are we alone in the universe? Where did we come from? That’s perhaps why I’m inspired by the work of Douglas Adams, whose mind embraced all science and scientific speculation. I draw a great deal of fun and enrichment by immersing myself in the work of other artists. Through my own work, I try to give the same to others. In that sense, I feel like I’m writing in a tradition of English storytellers, building on the work of my heroes, the likes of Terry Pratchett, Tolkien and Lewis Carroll. I constantly work on new concepts – I can have five or six new projects going at the same time. And these projects can be years in gestation. For example, the concept, ‘Aliens in my Garden’, which would later grow into ‘Celeste and the Witch Garden’, has been turning over in my head for as long as I can remember. Over the course of many years, the project accumulates new material, grows and develops a life of its own.
